For hills you might want bug spray and sunblock too depending on conditions.

1st you need a way to carry some water. Then you need good shoes as you already know. I sugest a defensive pepper spray. Some screen and bug repelent in small containers. A very small fist aid kit. A signal mirror and a wistle.

For the inside to keep stuff in case of walking shoes if you do make sure you want challenge any provincial park will see in trouble partner to stay warm knife protection first aid kit some places to hikewalk with never go it alone light jacket.
